How to get started.
It can be overwhelming and scary – planning your future and whether it includes college, a vocational certification, or the military. There are a lot of ways to discover your hidden talents and interests so that you can select the job best suited for you. There are dozens of places where you can start researching potential careers and find out what you’re good at or what you’d like to do for a living.
When can I start?
It all starts now, though, while you are still in school. Or, if you are a returning student, you have challenges, dreams, and goals to be worked through also!

Remember those questions you always ask your friends or maybe your family? “When will I ever use this stuff in real life?” Well, here are some ideas of careers where fundamental learning in areas of science, math, and social studies are critical. Young people in all socioeconomic groups have college aspirations. But despite their aspirations, low-income students and those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education are severely underrepresented on college campuses. In order to turn these students’ college dreams into action-oriented goals, the American Council on Education, Lumina Foundation and the Ad Council created the KnowHow2GO campaign.
The Michigan College Access Portal (MichiganCAP) provides free support for all students and families in Michigan to simplify the process of transitioning from middle school to high school to college and career. The MichiganCAP will offer students, parents, counselors and adult learners easy-to-use web-based, personalized tools to insure that each step in the process of choosing and applying for college is completed successfully.
